Principles of Society

A great part of that order which reigns among mankind is not the effect of government. It had its origin in the principles of society, and the natural constitution of man. It existed prior to government, and would exist if the formality of government was abolished. The mutual dependence and reciprocal interest which man has in man and all the parts of a civilized community upon each other create that great chain of connection which holds it together. The landholder, the farmer, the manufacturer, the merchant, the tradesman, and every occupation prospers by the aid which each receives from the other, and from the whole. Common interest regulates their concerns, and forms their laws; and the laws which common usage ordains, have a greater influence than the laws of government. In fine, society performs for itself almost everything that is ascribed to government.

On The Road To Recovery?

One can only hope. I (miraculously) have not gotten sick, yet.

I took the opportunity the other day to record the some of the unveiling of Spring with my little camera:

DSCN4458
The daffodil picture that so many of you like

DSCN4475
A pink flower. I'm not much of a botanist, if you can't tell.

DSCN4502
I do know my birds, or at least robins when I see them.

DSCN4523
Ah! Spring is a wonderful, glorious, joyful time!

Pause; Take Two

Well, my life is definitely on pause right now, half of my family got ill with a stomach bug within a day, so I'm now in charge.

Please be praying for us to get well soon! It happened very suddenly on Sunday and we don't know where it came from because we hadn't been in contact with very many people before that, and certainly not anyone who was sick.

I'm crossing my fingers hoping I don't get it.

Pause

How come no one appreciates the value of a quiet home life anymore? Or if they do, someone feels it their duty to intrude upon that stillness and make them keep pace with their breakneck speed. Is there really such an urgency to life?

Life is a vapor, but does that mean that we have to cram as much as possible into it? How will we absorb and assimilate such a sheer amount of cramming if we don't exhale as well as inhale?

We must somehow draw the line between indolence and maelstrom. A pleasant equilibrium that promotes the pursuit of knowledge and cultivation of friendships but also sweetly stops and allows reflection and appreciation of one's thoughts and friends.

A Spring in Her Step

I am a sunshine GIRL. I'm all about long relaxes in the sun, big dishes of ice cream after a tough run, fresh berries, vitamin D! I hope you all know that if you don't get enough vitamin D it will lead to depression and fatigue.

spring

March 21 is coming my way! I can already see the buds on the trees, one of my favorite rites of Spring.

Have a cooing Valentines Day if you are married and comfort yourself in the chocolate if you aren't.

Anna

p.s. I'm going to change my weblog template; so take warning.
